I have been fortunate to work with a diverse sample of people, including members of the LGBT community, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and members of the military. My clients have a variety of concerns, including relationship problems, depression, anxiety, addictive and compulsive behaviors, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. I also provide sexual health, premarital, and pre-partnering counseling.
Counseling Sessions Sessions generally last 45 minutes. Many people feel anxious meeting a psychologist for the first time. In the initial session, we will work together to identify goals, understand your experience and history, and most importantly, explore how you feel about working with me. A large portion of getting better in therapy (about 30-40 percent) is based on the trusting relationship clients have with their counselors. It is important that you feel comfortable and confident in our ability to work together. We will explore this more in subsequent sessions.
Couples Sessions Being single is hard. Adding another person and sometimes children to the equation can be downright overwhelming. In the first 45-minute session, we will work as a team to organize goals and develop a plan to help you work better as a couple. There are no "bad guys” in therapy. The problem is the relationship — not the individuals. In our time together, we will address some of the key signs of relationships in crisis and how to move your relationship to a healthy place.

Insurance I accept clients from a number of major insurance plans including Anthem, Anthem EAP, Magellan, Virginia Premier, ValueOptions, TriCare. Some people prefer not to have their insurance know that they are seeing at psychologist and would rather pay out of pocket. There are a number of reasons why people may not want their insurance company to pay for services. I am happy to talk with you about why some people prefer that their insurance company not know. Co-payment is due at the time of the appointment by check or cash; credit cards cannot be accepted at this time.
Fee for service You might decide that you want to pay for services yourself rather than billing your insurance company. I accept check or cash at the time of our appointment. The cost is $150 for the first session and $95 for each subsequent 45-minute session. There could be additional charges for other services, such as testing and report writing. A disclosure of costs will be provided when we meet.
